Hey, I like Congressman Wexler of Florida. He's generally on the right side of most progressive issues. Early Obama supporter which is sweet. Unfortunately, he's jumping on board the too little too late band wagon with Congressman Nadler, Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution.
In an email sent out to Wexler supporters, Congressman Wexler announced his co-sponsorship of a recently introduced...
resolution expressing staunch opposition to any potential preemptive pardons of members of his Administration and the need for an Independent commission or select committee to "investigate, and, where appropriate, prosecute illegal acts by senior officials of the administration of President George W. Bush."
Too god damn little my friends. We don't need another god damn strenuously worded resolution and another committee to find out what we all know.
It's so beyond ridiculous. The constitution already gives power to the House to prevent an untrustworthy president from issuing pardons and extensive claims of executive privilege, it's called impeachment. George Bush and Dick Cheney have admitted to authorizing torture, illegal wiretaps on US citizens, politicizing the Justice Department... seriously what the hell is wrong with the Congress when they won't take matters into their own hands using constitutionally granted authority.
The resolution is like when Demi Moore objected during the trial in the movie A Few Good Men. Here's Tom Cruise's analysis of that approach:
I strenuously object? Is that how it works? Hmm? "Objection." "Overruled." "No, no, I strenuously object." "Oh, you strenuously object. Then I'll take some time and reconsider."

Wexler and the rest of his colleagues in the House need to remember they have spines and do what's right. There are no more excuses and please don't give me the touchy feely bull crap how the country needs to heal and put this terrible time behind us. No! We need to see the restoration of the rule of law and the restoration of a fully functioning US Congress. Start at the top and hold W and his cronies accountable. Spewing some new resolution out of 110th Congress's last days that is only destined for court challenges is worthless.
