For awhile I felt that the all-time worst American moment was the O.J. Simpson trial verdict. In a stroke, our courts, the idea of justice in America, and the african-american civil rights struggle all appeared to be massivly de-legitimized.
The US Government joined that sad list whence came one of the greatest pussies in history: GWB and his merry band of torturers, giving me a new political nadir.
But a funny thing happened; OJ's life became living hell on earth. He was shunned by every decent person. His possessions were taken. Anyone who associated with him was tainted. He was forced to confess to the world in book form. Yet the ball rolled and rolled on him until indeed he found himself where everyone knew he needed to be: in a box or dead.
Will the same thing happen over time to Bush and the worst actors of the Cheney administration ?
Are circus trials really needed or have we made our collective judgements ?
In the age of pervasive media, is justice becoming meta ?
Look at John Yoo. He is about to be run out of his town on a rail
Will Bush be able to rehab his reputation or will the next 15 years be an object lesson in what happens to ex-Presidents who tortured ?
