I saw this video and felt like shedding a tear. Incredible, the school doesn't have a high enough school budget for him to adequately teach his school. The worst cut? Paper for tests. The lack of funds for the paper puts the man in a box that (although you must give him credit for finding an innovative way to cope) he shouldn't be in. Truly a sad story.
Is this what we have come to America? Is this how we will succeed? I know times are hard but on of our single most important future objectives is reforming our education system. Health care, the economic crisis, the energy crisis, our infrastructure (which education could be counted as a part of),two wars and Al-Qaeda. These are all incredibly important to our future and all our intertwined with one another. However, investing in our education something that will improve this country's economy as well as our future success. With every College graduate, every Doctor, every Scientist, every Teacher, we are investing in our country. Our investment in our future and our citizens is one that sees no immediate benefit to us, however, in the long run it ends up being as, if not more, important than all others.
When I see things like this I really have to say to myself "Is THIS what we have come to?" Our school needs more funds as well as better teachers and more updated classrooms and buildings. This isn't something that needs to be debated, it needs to be fixed, period. I am not trying to downplay any of the problems we face in the country. Our laundry list of troubles at times seem daunting. However, I always found it reeasuring that the President-Elect speaks about all of these problems with such passion and understanding, more than I have seen any other President do, knowing that our investment in our present........ is our benefit in our future.
