With the final results in from Franklin County in Ohio, I can definitively say that more than 132 million Americans cast a vote on election day. Did they all vote for a Presidential candidate? No, but at least that many showed up to vote for something, still a record and likely at least 9 million more than 4 years ago.
My current tallies are as follows:
Total votes cast: 132,023,132
Obama: 69,438,006
McCain: 59,914,046
Margin: 9,523,960
Win percent: 7.22% (52.60% to 45.38%)
More details after the fold.
So what's still missing?
Queens county in NY is apparently still not complete. Based on the increases in the other boroughts, there could still be another 60-70k votes there, with Obama winning 75% of them.
Ohio is still not final, though with Franklin county completed, the final may be reported soon. The only numbers I can find on Mahoning county are as of 11/4, so there may be some more votes for Obama and McCain there as well. A number of other counties also have results from 11/4 or 11/5, so they may have some bumps as well. Another 5k-10k for Obama out of Ohio is not out of the question.
I haven't finalized my totals for some states yet, so there are probably another 2k-5k that are reported that aren't in my totals.
Out of the ~132 million votes cast, I have found county level detail (or total votes cast by county) for ~84 million, so I'm still looking for total votes cast for the other ~48 million. In general, I've found that the data available for Obama / McCain / 3rd party / write-ins (where available) is about 99% of total votes cast, so it's likely the ~48 million will generate another 400-500k in total votes cast (assuming I can find the details).
Adding all that up, you get another 45k for Obama in Queens, 5k in OH, 5k elsewhere = 69,493,006, so slightly higher numbers in any of these categories will push him above 69.5 million. For total votes, 132.02M + 60k in Queens + 20k in Ohio + 400k elsewhere for under / over votes or 3rd party candidates = 132.5 million total votes.
I expect my updates will slow down as I run out of counties with credible votes to count, but these are my current predictions. I'll update when I think it's meaningful enough to do so (such as today, with crossing the 132 million threshold definitively).
Thanks for all the emails and support I've gotten!
