I am making an attempt to express my feelings why Edwards should refrain from endorsing either Hillary or Barack in the primaries.
I have enormous respect for Edwards. As Paul Krugman pointed out recently in his blog, the platform Obama and Clinton are running on is largely built on the issues that Edwards raised. If not for Edwards - issues such as poverty, universal health care and education would have largely gone ignored.
That said, Edwards' recent action of meeting Hillary secretly raises some concern for me. To me, it appears unpleasant. While I don't expect Clinton to be open and forthcoming, I certainly expect Edwards to be such. Edwards has been a netroots favorite, and here in netroots, we take up transparency very seriously. At least I do.
While Edwards gets to make his own decision, I would like to see him tie his endorsement to getting the candidates to significantly upgrade their poverty reduction programs, health care, and NOT tie it to some VP or AG slot, though he wouldn't be a bad candidate in any of those positions. I would be mightily disappointed if Edwards did so.
Finally, as far as endorsements are concerned, I suspect that majority of us kossacks are capable of making up our own minds, and that endorsements rarely have any effect on us.
