Yes, I know a lot has to happen to even get there and Clinton could still win. Yes, I know. I'm just having some fun and Kansas Governor Sebelius would be a good running mate.
I know that some people have some reservations about that ticket:
Too much change
Lacking on Foreign Policy experience
Sebelius bored us with the SOTU response
Sebelius is too moderate.
What does Sebelius bring to the ticket?
Well for, the "too much change" argument, it could lock down the female vote. To have the knowledge that there would be a female president (barring unfortunate circumstances) next would play huge. A smart, passionate female governor of a red state. If we are looking for change, let's swing for the damn fences!
As for the lacking on foreign policy experience, I think it will come down to this: It's Iraq stupid. This election will not be about Kosovo, China, who the ambassador to the UN, or how the Middle East has us strung up by our thumbs with the oil situation. There will be a clear option on Iraq and the future war on terruh. Responsible foreign relations or more warmongering and saber-rattling (I'll let you decide which candidate fits those options). Plus, that is what the cabinet and the damn Joint Chiefs is for and Obama has already said he will seek out the most qualified opinions (even if they disagree). THANK GOD, that will be very refreshing after this administration.
Yes, as a Kansan, that was boring, pure and simple. BUT that is far from her normal speaking style. She does a lot better on the fly (I Know, it's wierd). Check out her endorsement speech of Obama when they were in El Dorado, now that was good (I was there!) and is what she does normally. Let's face it, the Webb response was a damn good speech that is very hard to duplicate.
I laugh at the people who say Governor Sebelius is too moderate. Let's go through some rather "progressive" things she done. Her appointee in the state health department was the first GOVERNMENT entity ever to reject a coal plant on carbon dioxide emissions (this pissed off R's and they are currently trying to override her. She has advocated for healthcare for children under 5 (its a red state and universal mandates don't play well) and pre-K education for all. Not to mention she won re-election twice and has had 60-70%+ approval ratings throughout her term.
What she brings to the ticket? Smart and tactical, executive experience. A huge family pedigree in Ohio (wasn't that listed as swing state by someone? :P) A midwestern work ethic and knows how to pick her battles. She doesn't waste her political capital on pitiful things. Abortion rights are also still being upheld by her administration and the Kansas Supreme Court. Imagine if she had the freedom of increased Democratic majorities from Congress to statehouses as a VP and future President. Holy crap, blows my mind.
