There are many reasons to believe that George Bush gives only lipservice to the Bible. Here is what a prophet had to say about King Jehoiakim of Judah who followed the beloved and wise King Josiah. After years of Josiah's peace and prosperity, Jehoiakim reversed field and his corrupt administration and poor judgment soon found the Jews in their sixty-six year Babylonian capitivity. Below the fold is what Jeremiah had to say, before the Babylonians invaded, about the administration of Jehoiakim, and we may say of George Bush:
From the Book of Jeremiah, 23:13-19
Woe to him who builds up his lodgings through unrighteousness, and his upper rooms through injustice;
who makes a worker work for free or does not give him proper wages;
who says, "Let me make myself a fancy palace, with wide rooms at the top,"
with windows and cedar paneling, and painted all vermillion.
Are you king because you're the best at cedar paneling?
Didn't your father just eat and drink, and then "make merry" by acting justly and fairly?
He would take up the cause of the poor and the downtrodden, that was what made him merry.
Is that not how to obey Me, says the Lord?
But you -- all you care about is money,
and shedding innocent blood, and oppression and violence.
Therefore, thus says the Lord concerning King Jehoiakim son of Josiah of Judah:
No one will mourn him--"Too bad, O Brother, O Sister!"
No one will mourn him--"Too bad, your lordship, your honor!"
He'll be buried like a donkey, dragged away and thrown out past the gates of Jersualem."
