As Kos wrote on the front page yesterday, the Clinton campaign is once again trivializing a state in which they may not win:
I’d love to carry Texas, but it’s usually not in the electoral calculation for the Democratic nominee. Florida and Michigan are.
Of course it makes sense she would say that, she's rapidly losing ground in the Lone Star State. Just take a look at last night's newest Survey USA poll in the state:
Survey USA 2/25
Obama 49%
Clinton 45%
But this is all moot right, because as Hillary Clinton recently informed us Texas doesn't matter.
Unless of course, it does.
Also released by Survey USA last night was this interesting poll:
Texas General Election
McCain 49%
Obama 41%
That's right folks, Obama is down single digits with McCain unable to crack 50 percent.
Now I'm not suggesting that we pop open the champaign and hand over Texas and it's whopping 34 electoral votes to the Democratic party, but this is a promising sign.
But wait...there's more. Here's the real kicker folks, in the same poll, Hillary actually polls slightly better than Obama.
Texas General Election
McCain 49%
Clinton 43%
But it's all for nothing. Texas doesn't count. See if Hillary gets the nomination, she'll just ignore this 6-point McCain lead and campaign in states that "Democrats can win."
Hillary, this is what having a "50-state strategy" is all about. You campaign everywhere to build the Democratic brand, and eventually you are able to create a truly national party.
So, Senator Clinton please stop trivializing every state you don't win. Because you're not only making yourself look stupid, you are hurting the Democratic brand.
