Obama mania has swept across the country, for good and for bad. The good part, we could have a very good chance to win this election. The bad, it will turn off young people from politics. Click to read more.
I am 13 years old and in 8th grade in Northern Virginia. I have plenty of friends, guys and girls, all ethnicities. Just about every one of them support Obama. Absolutely no support for Hillary. I know one person who supports McCain. Now you might be saying, how do a bunch of 13 year olds have to do with any of this. They are all hyped up about this election. They are yelling "Obama '08" in classrooms, but this will all come crashing down. If a miracle happens and Obama, or even Hillary, gets in the White House, they will have to clean up after Bush. All these messages of Hope and Change will eventually backfire. We expect him to get us out of Iraq in a few monthes, get Universal Healthcare, magicly make World peace, this won't happen. We will be dissapointed, and most of us will stay away from politics. That means a lot less support from a new inspiring Democrat next election, they will remember, Obama didn't get anything done. Maybe we will be able to get out of Iraq and get a few other good things done, but we have to get rid of this massive debt. That will mean increasing taxes and cutting spending. That's what Obama/Hillary will be doing the first four years in office, and the Republicans will get Congress, and a ton of these programs Obama and Hillary support won't be passed. He will change the tax system to be fair. That will be the reason nothing will get done. The Republicans will be criticizing the increase in taxes (even though it will only be on the rich, average Joes will also get angry at an increase in taxes for the rich) and win Congress only on that (and maybe a bit of fear mongering). Nothing that has to do with spending will be passed because Bush screwed the country up. Long story short, Obama will have to clean up after Bush and that will involve cuts in spending and increasing taxes, and young voters will say "What happened to _______ or a better system of _______." Republicans will fight every peice legislation with ferocity. Just to put everyone down, we are screwed with a Republican or Democrat president, somehow the Republicans manage to win everything, no matter how well Democrats do.
