my kids are sick...two of them have registered a 102+ on our digital thermometer...the third one (on her third day of being sick) has just enough energy to cry and scream about how bored she is
mommy4mak isn't much better...she is listless and has spent her entire day in the fetal position
I'm running around being a short order cook...and the medicine administrator..and the temperature taker...and the vomit cleaner...and the diaper changer...and the book reader..and the nose wiper
Yet..i am making time to volunteer for someone who needs my help. I spent several hours making calls to other volunteers to urge them to keep calling people in the district, making calls to several dozen people in the district. I even (accidentally) bothered one friend watching the super bowl game (and yes I got yelled at for that, deservedly)!! Now, I am here at 11:30p.m. making an effort trying to get YOU to help out.
I'm helping this crazy navy vet who is trying to change the world. He is running for congress in district 14 of Illinois.
Here (click to see nice pics!!) is what Kos had to say about him the last time this guy ran:
---------- SNIP ----------
As distinguished as the Fighting Dems are, John stands out from that crowd for a simple reason -- he's taking on Dennis Hastert himself, the Speaker of the House. That's no small feat and requires a pair of brass ones.
...
Laesch is a living example of our recommendations in Crashing the Gate -- organize locally, take over moribund Democratic Party organzations, and leave no district behind -- challenge everyone, everywhere.
---------- END SNIP ----------
In the end, out spent more than ten-to-one , John still managed to grab 40% of the vote in this deep red half-rural district of Illinois. I firmly believe that John's showing scared Hastert into not running again. I wish I had been there for the first battle. But I'm trying hard this time around.
After listening to a speech by DNC chairman Howard Dean over the summer (wherein he chided people my age for our inactivity allowing people like Bush to be in power) I decided I was going to actively volunteer and give money this year (my first year doing this).
I settled on John Laesch for multiple reasons. Here are a few:
- HE doesn't mince his words...in this kind of district, other candidates would shy away from talking about immediately withdrawing from Iraq, or a woman's right to choose...John does not
- HE is a people's candidate..he's got hundreds of passionate volunteers...who believe deeply that John is the right person for the job
- John is the best chance in years to turn the US house seat in this district true blue...he is a navy vet (and his brother is still serving), his family has lived in IL-14 ever since he was little, he's got great name recognition, he is one of the most photogenic and telegenic personalities i've ever seen, and he OWNS the stage when speaking
Here is my plea to you -- The election is on teusday, Please call John's office TODAY and offer to do phone banking for him ...it's snowing in the district, we NEED your help to get the vote out. You could also email andrew@john08.com
update: John was Navy intelligence, not marine...fixed
