Wow. I knew there were a lot of Hillary camp pundits in the mainstream media, but any mask of objectivity has slipped from the face of mainstream media in the wake of Super Tuesday. On ABC Tuesday night, Donna Brazile and George Stephanopolous spun everything in Clinton's favor, casting doubt on the sustainability of Obama's surge. Yesterday, Juan Williams sounded angry while parsing the incomprehensible rise in Obama's momentum.
But today, Jake Tapper and ABC jump the shark. Tapper spins the enthusiasm of Obama supporters as verging on a cult. He draws on the MSM's own echo chamber, citing a string of media pundits who have compared Obama's surge to some kind of Second Coming of Christ as proof that voters have become unhinged.
The Holy Season of Lent is upon us. Can Obama worshippers try to give up their Helter-Skelter cult-ish qualities for a few weeks?
Apparently to the MSM, enthusiasm for Obama is "weird" and a little bit "creepy". With record numbers of voters are turning out to support a candidate not blessed by the media, they are sowing seeds of fear and doubt by implying that supporting Obama is tantamount to becoming a Hare Krishna.
I can't begin to describe how angry this makes me. After 8 years of malaise, of rancor and division, of desparation and despair in our government, we've arrived a place in our history when we can turn the page. I have nothing against Clinton. The concept of having the first female president is exciting. But she is in no way a representative of the future. Her ties, her history and her political machine run too deep to be seen as anything but a continuation of the status quo. I am also not a frothing-at-the-mouth Obama supporter. I am concerned about his experience. But he respresents a rare opportunity of hope for the future that has proven to attract people from across the political spectrum. After nearly a decade of ugly politics, millions of Americans are excited at the prospect of hope. It's a beautiful thing...
And the media can't stand it. Because they didn't see it coming, they didn't bless it, and what the hell is the public doing coming up with ideas on their own anyway. But than anything, Obama doesn't come with the deep network of backroom connections that assure the media of their comfortable future. That's Clinton's mantle. And it's obvious the media is going to try and preserve it.
