It has been HILLARY'S "BASE": Women Voters who continue to vote for her in large numbers. Numbers large enough to keep her necka nd neck with Barack Obama for the democratic nomination.
Yet, is there a chink in the armour?
Is it really true tha the Clinton Mantra that Hillary is the female candidate andergo therefore, as a woman, you are obligated to support her, will this continue to hold true.
Especially amongst the most fiercely independent women around: those who fight for women's rights, who believe in the causes that women's groups have fought for many decaddes such as the CHOICE movement.
Perhaps, indeed, there is a radical new way to understand "FEMINISM"
A way of thinking about feminism from one of the great feminist leaders of our times:
KATE MICHELMAN.
The radical idea is the following:
WOMEN are FREE to choose whichever candidate they believe will be best. They ar enot bound by any preconceptions. They are free. And hence, Free women, will vote for Obama, if they so CHOOSE.
Kate Michelman is a leader in the feminist movement.

She is "the face of reproductive rights"
President of NARAL 1985-2004
Testified against ALITO.
Nowadays, what is Kate Michelman doing?
She is ENTHUSIASTICALLY supporting BARACK OBAMA for president.
And defending her right to do so VIGOROUSLY:

KEY PARAGRAPH BELOW:
I haven't abandoned my commitment to the women's movement -- and anyone who knows me understands I never will. My endorsement of Barack Obama is actually a celebration of that commitment, and an honest reflection of what I have been fighting for for over 40 years.
The women's movement is about free choice, self-determination and challenging a status quo that fails a lot of Americans, not just women. And it is not about going along. It's about transcending, about having the freedom to follow one's heart, about creating and pursuing new opportunities, and about the American dream being for all Americans.
She continues:
When a presidential candidate's core values are unity, equality, opportunity and creating an atmosphere of respect and harmony, both nationally and internationally, then that candidate's vision aligns with the best hopes and dreams of the women's movement. And that is precisely Barack Obama's vision.
For me, the choice between supporting Barack or Hillary was the choice between supporting someone who I know would be very good, Hillary Clinton, or supporting someone who I know could be truly great
BARACK OBAMA: FIGHTING FOR WOMEN
and men and poor and rich and whites and minorities .....ummm....FIGHTING FOR AMERICANS.
GO OBAMA!
