well, well, well...
Another day, another surprise in the American political world.
I have actually been a fan of Spitzer for his tough on white collar crime posturing over the last five years. I was actually hoping that he would blow the lid off the Wall Street thievery in the subprime and debt markets.
Well, let's just say that Spitzer's career, or at least should be, over.
So now that the obituary for Spitzer's career is out of the way...on to Presidential politics....
Since the Hillary camp wants to make an issue out of who supposedly supports (or has been tied to) Obama and generally imply guilt by association...
What does Hillary have to say about this?
FOX NEWS on Spitzer's endorsement
I mean, wouldn't it be fair for Hillary to come out strongly against Spitzer's lawbreaking and degrading to women behavior?
Update: Response to some of the comments:
I actually want to respond to some of the comments supporting Spitzer because this is a "personal mistake", etc.
First of all, the man is not only the executive of a state, he was the chief law enforcer for many years. Not only that, he actually prosecuted prostitution rings! Not only is he breaking the law, degrading women and engaging in horrible behavior, he actually is a hypocrite just like the Republicans we so often criticize! Let's not be like the Democrats from ten years ago and excuse his despicable behavior. It was not acceptable for Bill to do it and its not acceptable for Spitzer to do it.
If we, as Democrats/Progressives, want to be seen as standing on principles then we must hold our public officials, no matter how popular, accountable for their ridiculous behavior. SPITZER WAS OUT SLEEPING WITH A PROSTITUTE THE NIGHT BEFORE VALENTINE'S DAY. Good g-d! I mean, I don't put much into Valentine's day (even though its my parent's anniversaries and we have ALL received/given some gifts on that day), but we can all see the symbolism. The man is married and has a family. Do your job in D.C. and then go home to your family. But back to the point - we must not defend public officials who violate our trust either directly (as in the case of most Republicans) or indirectly (as in Spitzer breaking the same laws that he enforces vigorously). Breaking the public trust is breaking the public trust.
Now, I did put the snark tag because I find the diary a way to comment, in a very sarcastic way, on the guilty by association meme thrown out there by the Clinton camp. OBVIOUSLY, Clinton is not at fault for Spitzer's behavior just like Obama isn't at fault for Rezko's or Farrakhan's or anyone else who supports them.
Update 2:
A very fair comment highlighted that Rezko does not actually support Obama. I have updated accordingly but the whole guilt by association thing was also said of Farrakhan, whose comments somewhat 'showed' support for Obama.
