Take Action
Dear Friends,
One week from today - March 19th - we will mark the 5th anniversary of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. We know many of your groups have already planned activites on or around that date. We hope you have already posted those activities on the calendar of the 5yearstoomany website. If not, just click here: http://events.unitedforpeace.org/...
Some of you have not yet planned anything yet, but there's still time to put something together!
Because Congress will be on recess and in their home districts next week (and until March 31), it is an excellent time to make sure they know you want this to be the last anniversary of the war! Now is the time to organize activities that will keep the pressure on your represenative and/or your senators:
* set up a lobbying visit for next week
* on the 5th anniversary, have people call into the district offices of your members of Congress
* hand out leaflets in front of their offices, especially if they are in highly trafficked areas
* have a picket line, vigil, or rally at or near their office
* ask the members of your group to send letters to the editor explaining why you want your represenatives to use their power to end the war and bring all the troops home - and have people call into radio talk shows with the same message
Whatever you are doing, please make sure to post it on the website: http://events.unitedforpeace.org/...
