Tomorrow Obama is scheduled to give a huge speech on race and gender in America. I am certain his speech will be huge and it is widely anticipated.
Obama's speech is anticipated as being a game changer.
Below you will find a speech that I wrote for him.
I am sure his will be ten times better than mine
Indulge me if you will
Take the jump
Recently, the sentiments of my former Pastor, Jeremiah Wright have caused a firestorm of controversy. I must reiterate that I emphatically and categorically find those sentiments reprehensible, abhorrent, and completely inappropriate. I disavow those comments and find them offensive. I find them offensive to the country that I love and what this great land—the United States of America stands for.
We find these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal.
Unity brought those words to reality. Unity will keep those words our reality.
Rev Wright was my spiritual advisor and not my political advisor. He is the one that brought me to Jesus and counseled me on moral and family values. The man that is portrayed in sound bites is not the man I know.
I reject the remarks of Rev. Wright; however I do not reject the man. The caricature of Rev Wright portrayed by the media is in no way an accurate depiction of a man that served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps, a well versed biblical scholar, a humanitarian and social activist. What Rev Wright represents is the last generation’s battle for equality and a visual of the wounds that never healed. The 1960’s represented a nation that was raw and the battle for equality was fought on two fronts: race and gender. Many wounds from this era still exist. It is up to us-- a new generation a new politics, a new sense of unity that focuses on our shared interest instead of our narrow differences.
I would be naïve to think that in a presidential race of such historical magnitude that race and gender would not eventually be at the forefront of our attention. For this I am grateful. Because it gives us-- as a nation, to publicly heal and move on to the greater uncertainties and problems we all face. The only way our big problems can be resolved is if we do them together.
Discrimination has been a terrible stain on the fabric of our history. Many groups of this fair nation have been the victims of discrimination in one form or another. We can not fight the old battles. But, forge on together, as a unified nation, in an all out effort-- to find what we share in common. We must leave petty and superficial differences in the past.
Our Irish, Asian, Native American, Jewish, Muslim, Latino, and African American sisters and brothers have more that unites, than divides.
Our Catholic, Christian, Protestant, and atheists sisters and brothers,
Our lesbian and gay brothers and sisters
Our well educated, uneducated, and under educated
Our blue collar and our white collar
Our women and our men
We all share the common goals of
Safety and prosperity
Civil rights and Civil liberties
Better Schools and increased opportunities for ALL of our citizens
For all of our people
Affordable universal health care for all
A new energy policy
Fair trade policies
World class education for our children
Increased economic opportunities
And job creation—
Notwithstanding middle class protection
We as a nation, is not one that seeks equality of results—we seek a fair playing field where we all have equality of opportunity. Our children deserve a chance and it is our responsibility to forge a real majority for them, for us to realize our true potential.
None of these goals are mutually exclusive. We can obtain all of our objectives, together.
We are only as strong as our weakest link and it is our social responsibly as one nation to lift up our weakest sectors of our nation and solve the major problems as one voice, moving in concert, directed by our or common interests instead of our narrow divisions
We are one nation.
What I can say I learned from my former Pastor, Jeremiah Wright, through my Christian teachings, that it is my civic and Christian responsibility to the least of us. Social justice is all of our responsibility.
Poverty in America is unacceptable
Teaching to the test is unacceptable
CEOs making billions while they bleed retirement and pension funds dry is unacceptable
The mortgage crisis is unacceptable
A war that should have never been waged and never been authorized while our brave and honorable troops loose their lives and limbs is unacceptable!
The way this administration treats them when they come home is unacceptable.
Those are some of our problems; they are big problems we need to be unified to solve them
--Especially now, in our economic uncertainty. We must come together to solve our major problems in a meaningful way.
We represent the future. We can not allow our selves to be drug into the same ole fights with the same ole people and the ole politics.
Together you and I forming a continuous chain of humanity, virtue, and purpose can and will combat the trials and tribulations, our great nation, the United States of America. We are one people with one goal—marching forward and realizing our untapped collective potential.
God Bless you, God Bless the United States
