Just a quick throw away diary, but an interesting encounter that made me smile. Figured it might be nice to share.
With all the financial obligations I'm juggling between my own here in Seattle and family back in Michigan, I end up behind on one bill or another and end up on the phone, debit card in hand, when something catches up with me.
Tonight, it was Comcast and my internet connection...
To be prudent, I'll refrain from naming the very cool young lady I spoke with, but regardless, thanks to her! She made my night.
While going through the motions of paying down the bill to get my information fix back up and running, I engaged in some friendly banter. I've worked the phones for billing for a few major ISP's and know quite well what a thankless job it can be. I always do my best to try and brighten thier day, even when I'm less than thrilled about whatever circumstances I have to shell out the $'s for.
Anyhow, I explain the essence of the point in my intro, having to send money back east to my parents and sisters and wonder when things flipped from ME asking THEM for help.
She comes back that she had just finally moved out of her mother's house with her kids and was herself still helping out her mother as well.
At that point, I just couldn't help myself and said the following:
"I hear ya. Good thing we've got an election coming up soon. There's HOPE for us yet!"
The big old smile on her face came across the phone line loud and clear. She was DEFINITELY in agreement and knew exactly what I was hinting at.
After the details were concluded and the bill paid, I thanked her for her help and explained that I'd been in her shoes taking the phone calls and wished her the best of luck with the rest of her calls for the night.
She turned around and thanked ME and not in that well known scripted way. I'd made her night she told me.
And she'd made mine.
My work here is done! :)
