At the top-right of every dKos page is our beloved tagline:
THE STATE
of
THE NATION
While it's not a bad tagline for a political site, it's not too great either, in my humble opinion.
Why? It's a bit generic.
After all, what political site wouldn't claim to represent (from its perspective) "the state of the nation"?
Of course, we and all the other political sites are actually trying to change the state of the nation to more faithfully implement whatever flavor of liberal v. conservative, progressive v. regressive, or Democratic v. Republican policies that its members advocate.
Updating the current tagline to make this clear is a bit problematic, however:
ACTIVELY TRYING
to
CHANGE
the
STATE
of the
NATION
in a
DEMOCRATIC
and
PROGRESSIVE DIRECTION
Accurate, sure, but it doesn't exactly roll of the tongue, and it would push the recommended diaries too far down. It's Not Good.
I have a suggestion for a better one, check it out after the jump...
So I suggest a new, more concise tagline:
MORE DEMOCRATS,
BETTER DEMOCRATS
I've been seeing this phrase on dKos a lot over the past few months, though I don't quite remember where I saw it first. I think it was a diary by Mark Moltz or something like that, but I can't find it now. Some dude with a low UID, anyway, so s/he's clearly a quality person.
Whoever coined the phrase, I think that as a new tagline it sums up what we all on dKos are really striving toward (aside from the minor disagreements that occasionally surface here).
And it's short.
OK, so what say y'all, Kossacks?
(BTW, you can trace the dKos tagline(s) history/evolution here)
