Barack Obama saw this coming years ago, and its finally happened. From Politico.com:
Obama had greater role on liberal survey
During his first run for elected office, Barack Obama played a greater role than his aides now acknowledge in crafting liberal stands on gun control, the death penalty and abortion — positions that appear at odds with the more moderate image he has projected during his presidential campaign.
The evidence comes from an amended version of an Illinois voter group’s detailed questionnaire, filed under his name during his 1996 bid for a state Senate seat.

I bet a few people here on DailyKos have read "Audacity of Hope" and Obama speaks directly about those questionnaires.
Audacity of Hope, page 116:
During my primary campaign, for example, I must have filled out at least 50 questionnaires. None of them were subtle. Typically they would contain a list of ten or twelve questions phrased in the following lines: "If elected, will you solemnly pledge to repeal the Scrooge Law, which has resulted in widows and orphans being thrown to the curb."
Time dictated that I fill out only those questionnaires sent by organizations that might endorse me...Get one answer wrong, they explained, and the endorsement, the workers, and mailing lists would all go to the other guy. Get them right, I thought, and you have just locked yourself into the pattern of reflexive, partisan jousting that you have promised to help end.
I'll let this speak for itself.
