Hillary is setting up Obama and his supporters for an okey doke. It is deviousness and cynicism at its best.
She is right about one thing, though. All that glitters is not gold - particularly any offers of a joint Clinton-Obama ticket.
The news this weekend that the Clintons are talking about a joint ticket sent a chill down my spine, because I realized it's a setup for undecideds and superdelegates. The okey doke goes like this:
- She and her surrogates (i.e., Bill) talk up a joint ticket, suggesting to those having trouble deciding that, hey, you can have us both if you vote for me because I'll pick Obama as my running mate. It's a win-win.
- Using her considerable influence, she persuades undecided voters and superdelegates to support her. The more they think about it, the more they like the idea of a joint ticket. It's a win-win.
- Using their considerable influence, the Clintons secure the Democratic nomination, and Barack Obama is. . .
- At home, because the Clintons have come up with some reason, any reason, as to why he would not be the best vice presidential candidate.
Don't fall for it.
Besides, I doubt if Obama would accept a vice presidential offer. He has a brilliant political career ahead of him that should in no way be tied to the Clintons.
