While clicking around on MSNBC.com, I came across the "'Lame duck' Couric hurting CBS News" story. I was a bit taken aback to "learn" that it is Obama not committing to the North Carolina debate:
The Obama interview allows Couric to do some personal lobbying, and perhaps even appeal to a little sympathy. CBS News has been anxious to get Obama to agree to an April 27 debate in North Carolina with Hillary Clinton that would be televised in prime-time. CBS says Clinton has agreed, but Obama hasn’t. Couric would moderate.
Well, since the source was CBS, I went there and found this "Democrats To Debate In Pennsylvania"
The Barack Obama campaign just sent out a press release announcing that Obama has accepted invitations to debate in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
And what do they say about Clinton?
The Clinton release stated that "Hillary is prepared to show she has real solutions for the problems facing residents of the Keystone State." No word yet from the Clinton camp on the North Carolina debate.
So, I decided to very simply bring attention the two separate stories to corrections@feedback.msnbc.com (and now all of you) in hopes that they will fact check and realize that there is misinformation in the AP story and that it is Clinton that has not agreed to the NC debate.
I do realize it's an AP and not MSNBC story but they should at the least edit out that paragraph. Let's see how long it takes for a correction to be made.
Update: It appears Obama agreed to the original date of Apr 19. Clinton decided she was going to set the debate calendar and declined and CBS changed the date to after the PA primary and Clinton has accepted that date, Apr 27. The report still gives the impression that Obama will not debate Clinton in NC, nor does it disclose the fact CBS caved to Clinton in changing the date.
