Colbert is hilarious. Did you guys catch the joint Obama and McCain ad on the show making fun of Clinton's 3am ad? It was brilliant. I'm trying to get a link to the video as soon as comedy central uploads it. It's funny that some of the defenders of Clinton original argued that the emergency she was referring to in her red phone ad may be economic not national security. Well, the second ad renders that argument meaningless since it clearly says that "it's 3 am, the phone is ringing and this time the problem is economic"
This brings up a very good point. How well can a candidate use comedy or the funnies in the presidential campaign, be it primaries or the GE? I'd love to know what the history is on this. I'm sure there are certain topics that should not be made fun off especially in a campaign with very serious issues. Still, it might be interesting to see if we can inject a bit of comic relief in light of the intensity of the campaign right now
Do people feel that at this point where it seems Obama is ahead and may almost win that he can use something like this as a way to reduce tension and maybe even get some of Clinton's supporters onboard? This particular ad did not attack Clinton, it was more of a fun ad and who knows, it may just work.
It may also depend on the state. Not sure how something like this would play in Pennsylvania. So the question is would it hurt more than help?
