This morning I read the local paper and saw that my congressman basically said he would continue is support of Hillary and to let the process continue through the end. Then on Kos I read about the USA today story and it didn’t look like Hillary was going to back off on the Obama bashing. That really ticked me off.
So I wrote this and sent it to to my Congressman. Still ticked, I picked up the phone and called his local office and told the very nice young man who answered the phone basically the same thing that is in my letter. I emphasized that as a friend of the Clintons, he has to talk to them and tell them to stop, now, and went on to say that as a grandmother of a teenage male I was scared to death of the implications of four years of McCain.
Yes, I was scared. And my voice shook. And I would have never ever done something like this before I found Daily Kos. This place has created a monster. I’ve donated money I don’t have, written letters to the editor (two of which have been published), sent E-mails. And now I made my first ever phone call. And I guess this is another feeble attempt at a diary, my third I think.
Here is the E-mail that I sent to Congressman Cleaver.
This morning I read in the KC Star that you are continuing to support Hillary Clinton and want the process to continue on until the end. Then I read on the Internet that in an USA today interview Mrs. Clinton said the following:
"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article "that found how Sen. Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."
I supported you when you ran for congress. I have always been an admirer. I respected the fact that you supported Hillary, knowing that it was because of the long history you had with the Clintons.
But enough is enough. Please, use your influence with the Clintons to tell them that if they are going to stay in the race, they have to stop using these kind of destructive, right from Carl Rove, techniques.
I would think that as a black man you would be outraged at the thought that the only hard working Americans are white!!! And while I am not black, I am outraged over the comment. Especially since all the darn Hillary supporters have been saying in the last day or so that the "tone" of the race would be more civil from now on.
The healing of the party cannot begin until Hillary stops saying things like this about Obama. It is people like you who are her supporters, that have a DUTY to this country to tell her to stop and if she doesn’t then you will SWITCH your support to Obama. Now.
This country cannot afford another four years of George Bush policies. Please, act now, today.
