I received the following in an e-mail today from a local theater I frequent.
Beck '08 Live
If you've been watching this campaign season and wishing that someone would tell it like it really is...your dream has come true. Glenn Beck has taken to the road with his live summer stage show--it's the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the people and theBeck '08 Live politics running the country--from City Councils to candidates, Glenn's got an opinion and he ain't bashful about sharing it.
For two hours, Glenn comments on the state of our union through his unique brand of stories and stand up. You may have heard and seen him on radio and TV, but until you've seen him on stage, you're yet to experience the real Glenn Beck. And if you've ever wondered what an honest stump speech would sound like, just wait until you hear "Candidate Beck" cut through the crap and right to the chase. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you think, and it'll help you understand why Glenn (and anybody else who chooses truth over political correctness) is totally...Unelectable.
My outrage meter went straight to the top so I sent the executive director an e-mail. I'll tell you more below the fold.
Here is my first e-mail:
I am very disappointed that you would choose to allow Glenn Beck to perform at your theater. The description of Glenn Beck in your e-mail could not be further from the truth. Glenn Beck brings a special kind of right-wing hate talk that frankly should not be promoted as the "truth". My friends and I have driven from Pittsburgh to state College for Dave Bromberg, moe., and several other shows. We really enjoy spending time in State College and love the atmosphere in your theater. However, I am not inclined to support a business that promotes Glenn Beck as a "truth teller". I just thought you should know this. I know I am not the only one who feels this way, and it can't be good for business.
Here is his response:
The purpose of a theatre is to show all points of view. This is the nature of a diverse community.
Mr Beck is appearing via satellite into hundreds of theatres around the country via this HD broadcast. Obviously we feel there is a market for his appeal, just as there might have been one for David Bromberg. The State Theatre does not endorse any viewpoint, either Mr. Bromberg's or Mr. Beck's but we do endorse the right to express that view to whomever wants to listen.
So, I just fired out another e-mail directly quoting Glenn Beck and stating that if you know he has a slanted point of view that it is irresponsible to promote it as the truth.
It looks like this show will be in theaters around the country. I know today is FISA outrage day, but if this bothers you as much as it bothers me then please find out which local theater Glenn will be beamed in to and take whatever action you feel is appropriate.
