Ever get that screaming when you talk to Republicans.
OK, so I am in a interesting email battle with a Republican. His statement is always about how McCain will not continue the "nanny state" when elected, and that Obama will. I of course counter with statements about how its not all about the nanny state. It makes my blood boil when I have to explain to adults that social programs are designed to help people not a socialist ruse or some shit. Do you find that you have to stand up for social justice for the poor, kids, uneducated, gay, white, black, hispanic, asian, middle-easterns, etc. It causes me to go quickly insane when I realize that people don't see the world pass their H2s and private school educations. I am interested in your responses.
UPDATED: I am going to flesh this out a little more, as some have requested.
The argument for the "nanny state" was really making ground with Bush's presidency. I believe the Republicans had really started pushing this heavy as another form of anti-patriotism...follow my on this one. Just as it was soon a dirty word or phrase to say you didn't support the war, the nanny state rhetoric was a way to bully people into believing that asking for help is a sign of weakness. I think you see this in the rural voters who vote against their own interest time and time again. I find that most people who are supporters of the rhetoric are the most uneducated folks. I mean educated of the real world, not just in schools. The person I am having the conversation with is a proven "rich kid mentality." The world is totally fair in their eyes. Life is like a box of chocolates (except this box has the little map on the inside of the lid for him. So when I go back and forth with him I want to scream. When people cannot put themselves in the shoes of others I think they miss a large part of what life is. Life is not all about marrying one woman dumping her for a richer, hotter one later, and being a hero. Life is about the nuances, the parts were you struggle between getting gas or a haircut this week, or whether the car payment can slide for a day or two, while you pay the rent. I am tired of my country being run by a bunch of rich kids playing house. Its time we take our country back. First things first, we start by electing a person who came from the America I know...not the rich boy fantasy America that my Republican counterpart lives in...
Fleshed out enough?
