So on Digg right now a story about a supposed 100+ mpg Mustang has hit the front page. Stories like this are the perfect illustration of how our news media has degraded into the organizations that repeat the Bush administration's lies.
The claims of the liar in the story are obviously bogus if you have even a cursory knowledge of engineering. They aren't even "hard to believe", they are literally impossible. Not just "unlikely", literally impossible. He is completely talking out of his ass.
If the credulous hacks who publicized his bullshit took even 30 seconds to fact check they would have known this. So either they did know that it's a load and chose to put it out there anyway making them liars, or they're completely incompetent.
Tolerating these kinds of lapses regarding inconsequential stories like this is what has allowed our media to atrophy into the horrible piles of garbage that they are now. Ones that not only fail to make Fox News look as bad as it is by contrast -- because let's face it, if the other channels were really doing their jobs, the contrast between them and Fox would be so blatant that no one could deny it -- but that actually sink to Fox's level sometimes.
For a little cheer up, you may have missed these stories about Volkswagen's high efficiency car that may be coming to production.
To avoid the obvious questions; the Volkswagen is able to have super high efficiency because it uses a very tiny engine and is itself very tiny and lightweight. The axles on an 80's Mustang alone weigh as much as the VW.
