I know there's a lot of unease lately that I won't spend a diary rehashing, but the bottom line is, I am thrilled that Obama is our nomineee and I'm excited beyond belief to have a chance to witness history. As an African American, I cannot believe that I get to be alive--and I am invited (!)--to see a black man accept the nomination of the Democratic Party for President. So I'm going.
I am taking a couple of days off from work to make the trip. My mother has already gotten us a cheap hotel room (which wasn't easy--downtown Denver is booked, and we'll be in Littleton). I'm letting my two kids miss school so they can come along. But beyond the fact that they'll be a witness to history, I think it's critical that Obama fill that stadium.
HuffPo's got a story that suggests the networks may cut down on the overall coverage of the Democratic Convention. Their sorry reason is that because of the announcement that the speech will now be held at the football stadium, they may not have the funds to provide wall to wall coverage on the previous nights. We all know that's crap.

Major television networks are considering curtailing coverage of the Democratic National Convention after Monday's announcement that Barack Obama will accept his party's nomination in a Denver stadium.
According to several broadcast executives, the networks will still cover all the major speeches. But beyond that, all options are open as they look for savings to balance out the anticipated costs surrounding the stadium event. The acceptance event is an unexpected departure from the traditional convention hall format they had spent months planning for.
So, they'll blame Obama for their weak coverage earlier in the week. Is it too much to ask that the public airwaves be used for four measily nights out of the year to inform voters about a major party's platform??? Clearly, they are scared beyond belief that the Democratic Convention--taken as a whole on four consecutive nights--will be such an amazing series of events and filled with frenzied excitement, that they've got to shut some of it down, and give McSame a fighting chance. They know the Republican Convention will be a total snoozefest, but they'll cover it every night and say they had the funds to do it since McSame didn't take his speech outside. Again, they'll blame their lopsided coverage on Obama's decision to open up the process and let everyone in.
Which is why it is critical to fill every seat in that stadium. It's got to be the biggest story of the year with fantastic pictures. If there is one seat in that stadium that is empty, we know the MSM will zoom in on it and say Obama overreached and couldn't meet his own expectations.
So I'm going. I'm going because I want my children to be able to say, "I was there." What I wouldn't have given to have seen King's great speech 45 years ago. I don't care about the bickering right now. This is our moment, and I don't want to miss it.
I signed up on this site: http://www.coloradodems.org/ to get information on tickets. If anyone has better information on ticket-getting, please do share. And if you can figure out a way to get to Denver, do it. Prove the MSM wrong about their decision to deny our party this moment in time. But beyond that--do it for yourself. Peace.
