The 50 State Strategy is hard at work in Wisconsin. This morning, the front page of our local paper, Wisconsin State Journal, has this story above the fold (click for the webpage story):
Democrats beating GOP in money race
I’ll give you a few fair-use tidbits below the fold.
This is hard proof that what Dean started and Obama is doing will help us take back the country.
We keep hearing from the pundits that Wisconsin is considered to be a "swing state" primarily because the numbers were so close in the 2004 Presidential race . However, Obama won our primary, 58 to 41, voter registration numbers are soaring and recent polling shows Obama with a 50 to 39 lead over McCain.
Here are some of the money quotes from the article (emphasis mine):
For the first time since at least 2000, minority Democrats in the state Assembly have raised more money than majority Republicans in the early run-up to the fall elections—a boost that could help their chances for taking back control of that house.
....record fundraising in the Assembly reflected the enormous stakes of control of that house, where GOP lawmakers have been able to block Democratic initiatives such as universal health care and a tax on hospitals to fund state health programs for the poor.
...spending on political ads by individual candidates could be swamped by heavy spending on ads this fall by presidential candidates as well as by special interests such as business lobby Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce and teachers union Wisconsin Education Association Council. Huebsch (R-Asssembly Speaker) agreed and said higher expected voter turnout also poses a challenge of reaching out to more people. "It changes your strategy and makes you realize you have to spend wisely and more strategically," he said..
All politics is local! Knock on some doors, give some money, pay attention to those down-ticket races that have the potential of electing more and better democrats.
Cheers to Dean and Obama for recognizing that a concerted effort in every state will help change the political map nationally and LOCALLY
