I have a confession to make: I don't care all that much about the people in the Republic of Georgia. I don't like seeing them get killed, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. For that matter, I don't much care about the folks in Iraq and Afghanistan, either, but I feel much worse because my country's military is killing them.
If the State of Georgia was attacked, I would be very upset. Yes, it's in the south, and consistently votes for Republican candidates for President, but Atlanta's a nice enough time, and goddamn, it is a part of America. But the Republic of Georgia? Not so much.
I hear that the US wants to eventually invite the Republic of Georgia into North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). With the icy waters of the North Atlantic so far away from so many of its members, this moniker has lost its relevancy, Perhaps we should call it for what it always has been: The Everybody Against Russia Society (TEARS).
So how about about, Mr. and Mrs. America, and all you ships at sea-are ready to spill blood to protect the sovereignty of a country you absolutely don't know jack shit about? All I can say is thank God there aren't any Senators with Georgian blood to advocate this lunacy like the Polish-American Mikulski's support for Poland's inclusion into NATO.
Every time a country is added into NATO, a defense contractor cries (tears of Joy, of course). Georgia's army needs a whole lot of help, given the butt-whooping they're getting now. What better use of hard-earned US tax dollars than carting in wheelbarrows of armament dollars?
