I was sitting at home last night doing reading for law school when I decide to visit the Seattle PI site. It has a breaking news banner on the top of the website that says that Joe Biden is Obama’s pick for Vice-President. I then go to CNN website for confirmation and see that they have it posted as well. I did not have my text message as that point but I didn’t care. I was just happy to know who the Vice President pick was. I had been getting excited about Biden for a while now and to hear it was him made my night. My first choice for the Vice-Presidency spot should have been Clark but Biden was one of my top choices so I was excited.
I then received a call from my buddy Cwech who first words to me were NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I responded with a YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! To him Biden was the Gary Cole character on The West Wing; not the worst but not the best. I told him we would have to agree to disagree I thought Biden was a great choice. I am excited for Biden being the vice-presidential pick for several reasons. He is great with foreign policy, now Kos and others may look at that and think Obama is filling a gap but I see it adding to the ticket. Obama has shown he has great foreign policy grasp and this just adds to the ticket. Now you might say that Senator Biden voted for the Iraq War but so what? It’s not like he still supports the war he has admitted his mistake and its time to move on. While it was a mistake it doesn’t take away from the fact that he knows foreign policy like no one else. He has shown this by his actions in the senate one of which was voting against FISA. Plus he is a great debater and will rip the Republican’s vice-presidential pick to shreds (especially if it’s Romney or Lieberman). He will help with the white working class people that Obama is struggling with right now because of his background.
If you look at the other candidates on the short list Biden is the best by far. There was Sebelius but what did she add to the ticket? She was a dull speaker and couldn’t help us carry her state. Then there was Bayh who was very smart but could be dull at times and a bit of a centrist. Kaine looked to be a good choice was pro-life on a personal level which could hurt with the ex-Hillary supporters that Obama is trying to get. As for Chet Edwards that just puzzled me, so that is why I liked Biden for the VP spot. He will be a good advisor to Obama and will represent the United States well. Oh and finally got my VP text as 1 AM PST.
