I heard one of the flood of Blabbering Faces quote Ron Fournier's pieces with the lead in that he is "One of the very best political reporters we have". And I got to thinking...
I posted a comment yesterday evening, in JapserJohns Diary, that was met with encouragement to write a diary about my suggestion.
One trick that will be noted...
move the selection off AP in your Yahoo down load. Get your feed from any, and everyone, else. If their links are not being used, they will notice.
The suggestion is a simple one with the potential to have a wide impact.
When you sign on to your favorite news feed, chose any Traditional Media source but the Associated Press.
I use Yahoo. At the top of each grouping of stories I have a series of sources presenting the stories of the moment.
I choose to read McClatchy, Bloomberg, CQ, Live Science, Space, Reuters, ANYONE BUT AP. Given the complete duplication of topics, nothing is lost.
I will no longer link to AP stories, read AP stories, or even load them into the list of feeds.
They will notice if this became a wide spread phenomenon.
They would note the reduction in traffic. That means falling revenue. They will note falling revenue. That means that if they don't change their tactics they will post a loss in the coming quarter.
Just stop reading AP. By the thousands. And encourage everyone you know to do the same. Pass it around...
Our brilliant crew provides instructions on how to do this in any news feed you currently use. Read the comments and find your path to enlightenment - and justice.
Delphil has added instruction for those who use Yahoo Mail.
1. You have to go to MyYahoo.com and can get a Yahoo account for free. I use it for email anyway so I had a Yahoo account.
2. Go to Add Content on the top left hand side.
3. You get a choice from many different modules. I picked MSNBC, Reuters, New York Times. But you can pick any one you want. Just don't pick any AP or Yahoo Top Stories.
4. Then when you refresh the page you will see those stories
Note: It wont have the flashy photos, etc. that the main Yahoo page has but who cares.
