Before 1959 we had only 48 states in this great nation, all of which were in one big solid block. All fit together so nicely like a big jigsaw puzzle. Then in January 1959, a new state was admitted. It wasn't touching any part of America. In fact, it was touching the dirty Soviets! How could that happen??? Then about 6 months later, another non-touching state was added, Hawaii. What was the deal with that one? It obviously wasn't English... I mean, 2 i's in a row??? Well of course a lot of us REAL AMERICANS were upset about all these strange non-American states, like talking head Cokie Roberts:
[Obama] has certainly come nowhere near closing the deal, as we've talked about before. This year that should be such a democratic year given all the other indices, he is tied in the polls. And going of this week to a vacation in Hawaii does not make any sense whatsoever. I know his grandmother lives in Hawaii, and I know Hawaii is a state, but it has the look of him going off to some foreign, exotic place. He should be in Myrtle Beach (note: A REAL American location), and uh, you know, if he's gonna take a vacation at this time. And I just think this is not the time to do that.
So Obama is this weirdo exotic dude who actually goes to that Hawaii place with two i's in a row. Damn. Why would anyone support him? Well, I guess McCain realized that people really did like to vote for that exotic dude, so he decided he needed to spice things up. He had to pick another non-American, from Alaska as his running mate to balance things out a little bit. But will it work? I don't think so. Doesn't that mean John "Country First" McCain isn't putting his country first, and putting one of his fellow country(wo)men first? What will this look like to all of us ORIGINAL Americans, who are all touching each other (no... not that way)? It won't look good. And I hope Cokie Roberts has some harsh words for her friend Johm McCain. I'm anxiously awaiting her comments!
Note: Arizona was also only the 48th state (being admitted in 1912). So McCain is hardly an american either (besides the fact that he was born in Panama). Ok, so compare that to a ticket with a resident of the FIRST STATE, DELAWARE, and you've got EXPERIENCED AMERICANS running against, NEWCOMERS...
Full disclosure: 1/2 my family has lived in Alaska for about 150 years.
