The AP has reported via Nielson Media Research that more than 38 million people watched Barck Obama's acceptance speech last night. More people watched Obama speak that watched the Opening Ceremeonies of the Beijing Olympics or the season final of "American Idol". WOW!. Ratings for the previous three nights were up over 2004 with an average viewership around 24 million.
Will the RNC come close to these ratings? Overall Republican party identification is down and the base is not really happy. Monday is Labor Day and many people will be finishing up the picnic or other family activities and won't be interested in watching that night. Gustav might even delay the entire event while giving us a great reminder of how Republicans govern.
Thursday night, the night John McCain needs to pump up the base at start bringing in the undecided voters, is Football Kickoff Night in America-one of the most anticipated sporting events this fall. The Super Bowl champion NY Giants are playing the Washington Redskins--the biggest TV market in the U.S. v. the biggest political market in the U.S. I'd have to say that the NFL will win the night. Poor John.
