Andrea Mitchell: "Ooh, how cool. How exciting!"
This is what Andrea Mitchell said on Hardball for one reason Palin could be a "gamechanger."
Hold your horses. I was planning a mini-rant on what Mitch was reporting from Denver this week. But...Andrea Mitchell just blasted McCain:
He only met her once?! They didn't even know each other. This isn't someone who was vetted.
She was recounting the feelings some "hockey moms" might feel. Now Chuck Todd and Tweety are rounding out some good coverage.
So the questions linger: What should we hit her on first? TrooperGate? Ethics investigations currently against her? NO foreign policy experience? Creationist taught in public schools? Pro-life in incest/rape cases?
Now, on to another quick point. i've already seen some fellow Kossaks throwing out unsubstantiated rumors about her 5th child. Let's not turn into they type of politics we are trying to defeat here. Let it rest. If there is truth, it will emerge organically. Let's not forget John Edwards left the ticking bomb out there of not admitting his own love child.
update
Andrea Mitchell just called McCain a "foreign policy guru." She's back on my list. Come on, Mitch!
McCain needed Lieberman to whisper sweet nothings in his ear on who Iran was training.
5:19pm Obama was just replayed. "Enough!" One word, so powerful. Anyone else have a favorite single word form the speech?
5:21 Lots of commenters are already catching the line of McCain only meeting Palin once. This IS a big point that needs to be driven home. This was pandering at its worst. Like an idea you would have polishing off your fourth brandy that actually gets traction and then poof! You pick a Palin.
5:23 WWe are reminded 38 M people saw Obama last night. Wow. Just wow. That is an unbelievable audience size to hear the speech I heard last night. How many millions did he win over just last night alone?
5:25 "This election has never been about me. It's about you!" I thought this was delivered with such great tenor and cadence. Truly, a statesman. And I am glad that hasn't been thrown back re: celeb meme
5:28 Matthews:
He's basically landed the punch that he's George W. Bush.

I must say I am, too, but not in a "good for McCain way." It is astonishing! The media has a shiny new toy to play with...they need to spend a day or two handling it and oohing and aahing before they begin hitting it with hammers and seeing what happends if they drop it in the toilet.
5:30 Rennert below points about that there will be gaffes. The question is how will the media cover them? Will we hear the chants of "POW, POW..." with something else?
5:31 Jalapeno below points out:
I want to see Pawlenty and Mittens endorse McCain/Palin 100% and pledge their 100% support. Just like the media demanded from the Clintons.
5:32 Some of the best one liners from the DNC. Man, John Kerry was powerful. I feel like he didnt get the coverage he should have. Also showed Biden's very funny "Freudian slip."
Hillary's Sisterhood of the Travelling Pantsuits got a bigger cheer than I remember live.
5:36 Chris Matthews Big Number:
36 years
Answer: How long it has been since a GOP ticket was without a Bush or a Dole.
Interesting, my overseas friends always rail against the Empire. I sometimes forget how so tightly power has been concentrated post WW II. Anyone else think this is a valid argument?
5:44pm Matthews comes back and introduces the talking heads. He starts off with a right hook:
Can you take a woman who is so far right? Totally outlaw it. All the way. Will it sell?
5:44p "Half of Alaska is in prison and the other half is under investigation." Nice slam by the talking head. now he's weaving in the Troopergate story nicely.
--need to walk my puppy. Argh. I thought I could finish it. I'm pausing it live and I'm coming back.
Palin's stanceon foreign policy is
"No issue stance recorded."
Seriously, folks. you can't make this stuff up. A 72-year-old heartbeat away form the Presidency. And that's her stance. Clear as day.
