This little nugget is from the New Republic, although Chris Hayes from the Nation is due the original credit.
It would seem that Gov. Palin may have another skeleton in her closet.

Remember when Pat Buchanan ran a number of hard-right, fringe campaigns for president in the late 1980s, 1990s and 2000? Well, guess who was supporting him. From an AP report in 1999: "Pat Buchanan brought his conservative message of a smaller government and an America First foreign policy to Fairbanks and Wasilla on Friday as he continued a campaign swing through Alaska. Buchanan's strong message championing states rights resonated with the roughly 85 people gathered for an Interior Republican luncheon in Fairbanks. ... Among those sporting Buchanan buttons were Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin..."
In fact, a very committed Buchananite I talked to today was thrilled by the choice, saying as soon as I mentioned it: "It's great for the base. I'm pretty sure she's a Buchananite!"
McCain has been working very hard to convince Jewish voters that Obama represents a threat to Israeli security, and has found some success. Joe Lieberman has been aggressively employed in this role to target this. There was great suspicion that he may have been close to selecting Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) for the same reason as the Vice Presidential nominee.
All those efforts may be getting close to teetering on the edge. Buchanan has said some nasty things about Jews in the past, and is certainly far from well liked in that community. Not only was Sarah Palin a supporter, but she seems to have been a committed supporter. She may have even been backing him for the 2000 Reform Party campaign, which was a real exercise in fringe politics when you had George W. Bush on the GOP ticket.
Please inform any Jewish voters that are concerned with these issues that Sarah Palin was a firm supporter of a man that had some very un-American things to say about them. In any case, it reinforces what we're seeing. She's a HARDCORE conservative - the hardest they get on 95% of the issues. Any moderate would be crazy to support her on her domestic policy.
