- If you actually have to call yourself The Original Maverick, then you're not really all that Mavericky. Are ya?
- If McCain says today we're worse off than we were four years ago, but in January that we were better off than we were eight years ago, what the heck does that mean? I guess the first four years must have been awesome (9/11 and recession anyone?). Ot, the last six months must have been really crappy. Does that mean the surge didn't work?
- Could the fact that Cheney is persona non grata at the GOP convention have something to do with the allegations in Suskind's new book? The orders to fake the intel came on creamy White House stationery at the same time the Veep's office was pressing the CIA to link 9/11 to Iraq. Hmmm. (By the way, Suskind's interview with Vieira is masterful.]
- The DNC's new video Puppet Master is kind of cute. Big Oil is holding McCain's strings. But, jeez, the sound quality is bad.
- John McCain is lying about Barack's position on nuclear power. He says "Sen. Obama has said that expanding our nuclear power plants 'doesn't make sense for America'." But here's a quote from Barack's fact sheet (PDF):
Safe and Secure Nuclear Energy: Nuclear power represents more than 70 percent of our noncarbon generated electricity. It is unlikely that we can meet our aggressive climate goals if we eliminate nuclear power from the table. However, there is no future for expanded nuclear without first addressing four key issues: public right-to-know, security of nuclear fuel and waste, waste storage, and proliferation.
So, in other words, McCain must believe that we have 1) no right to know; 2) that terrorists should have access to nuclear waste; 3) that waste should be stored in your back yard (which makes it easier for the terrorists to get, of course); and 4) that rogue states should get access to enriched nuclear materials. Right?
