Did nobody actually read the whole article? Even Rachael Maddow given the perfect opportunity 15 minutes ago on MSNBC's Race to the White House didn't debunk this meme that's been going around based on a recent interview.
I'm assuming most people saw the Politico article
http://www.politico.com/...
But they all must be reading it in a hurry because the part where the Obama's daughter
Malia says, ‘I know there is a Santa because there’s no way you’d buy me all that stuff.’
seems to be left out.
Even the Politico article title says the pertinant detail.
Obama leaves the gifting to Santa
But still there's no de-bunking going on so let's straight out state the details.
- There are Christmas presents under the tree at the Obama house it's just that they say they all come from Santa. And according to the children (see Malia's statement above) it's a lot.
- Birthday presents don't have to come in boxes - Have you ever asked a kid what they want for their birthday? How many times when it was on the list of possible answers was the answer not "A Party!". So the Obama's don't host that 2 hour party at ChuckECheese that I get away with they go for the SleepOver party. Can I get invited anytime during the next 8 years?
Anyway the gist of it all is that no way should anyone get away with saying that the Obamas don't give presents at Christmas or Birthdays. It's turning into a smear, of what Rachael Maddow called weirdness (roll my eyes), and it needs to be debunked.
UPDATE - Thanks to BlueSue here's the People Mag article.

Somebody read it and tell me that Politco didn't lie with their headline
