I have been reading for the last week about Bill Clinton still walking around with bruised feelings and now Hillary is "not certain" what she wants to do about the convention......Do these 2 not get it? Our nominee is not in the best of shape, the party is behind where they hoped to be at this point in time and are spending their days just trying to get the message out and counter the McCain campaign....perhaps the Clintons do get it and simply do not care? Their combined actions, regardless of their words, cause me to wonder.? I mean many have suspected this could hurt our chances this November and now it seems that everyone has to spend their time worried about bruised feelings like there is nothing more important? Good gosh with the shape our economy is in how can anyone worry because someone is upset their candidate did not win????? I thought everyone voting for either of them did not want another 4 years of John McCain?
Today at ABC is an interesting article regarding Hillary and her intentions pertaining to the convention.
http://abcnews.go.com/...
She states she is not certain what she is going to do and it so reminded me of her speech when she knew she had lost and only offered her supporters, and the Democratic Party, the phrase "What Does Hillary Want"....it is now a couple of months later and she is still saying it in my opinion.
The article states:
Sen. Hillary Clinton told a gathering of supporters last week that she's looking for a "strategy" for her delegates to have their voices heard and "respected" at the Democratic National Convention -- and did not rule out the possibility of having her name placed into nomination at the convention alongside Sen. Barack Obama's
The refusal to publicly announce her intentions is widely seen as a bargaining chip Clinton is holding on to as party officials negotiate logistics regarding her convention speech and other activities, according to several Democrats who are closely involved in the matter.
Lanny Davis, a long time supporter for the Clintons is quoted as stating:
Lanny Davis, a longtime friend and supporter of the Clintons, called the idea of putting Clinton's name into nomination a "completely idiotic idea that leads to nothing but party disharmony." Still, the fact that some Clinton supporters are clamoring for a chance to vote for her at the convention is partly Obama's fault, he said. Davis, who described himself as "100 percent behind Obama" in the general election, said Obama should be doing more -- in symbolic and substantive gestures -- to make clear he values and needs the support of former Clinton supporters.
"It's a reflection of genuine frustration by Hillary Clinton supporters that Sen. Obama seems to have forgotten about 18 million voters," Davis said. "My concern about Sen. Obama is he doesn't recognize that the outreach to the Clinton grass roots has to be more visible, more overt, as well as more symbolic."
Does anyone other than me think this does nothing to help our nominee or the Party at this point in time? I mean what is more important? Gas prices? Legal Abortion? Our children dying in Iraq? People losing their homes? Health Care? or What Hillary Wants? or her supporters?
When she lost I heard that the Obama supporters needed to give the Hillary Camp some time....and now they want that time at our convention? One that Obama deserves because he won? They want her to be nominated!
If you don't believe that then perhaps you need to read this from the same article at ABC:
Some Clinton backers have even speculated that a roll call could result in a Clinton victory, though Clinton herself has said such an outcome is nearly impossible. Many Clinton delegates have followed their candidate's lead and are fully supporting Obama's candidacy, so Clinton will likely wind up with fewer votes in a roll call than her delegate total as of the final primaries June 3.
This is snowballing folks and over at Daily News they had this to say in an article regarding Hillary having not yet made a decision 3 weeks before the convention.
http://www.nydailynews.com/...
If so, that could be read as a dis to Obama from female Democrats still bruised by Clinton's defeat and resisting her pleas for party unity. Other Clinton backers, however, worry that she could be embarrassed by a roll call because many of her delegates already have switched to Obama
Time has another one that deals with:
Have the Clintons Gotten Over It?
http://www.time.com/...
A part of this one states:
But behind the united front, says an adviser, "it's not a great relationship, and it's probably not going to become one." In private conversations, associates say, Clinton remains skeptical that Obama can win in the fall. That's a sentiment some other Democrats believe is not just a prediction but a wish, because it would prove her right about his weaknesses as a general-election candidate and possibly pave the way for her to run again in 2012. Clinton is also annoyed that Obama has yet to deliver on his end of an informal bargain, reached as part of their truce, that each would raise $500,000 for the other. "Hillary has done her part in that regard," says an adviser. "Obama has not."
I mean when do they start dealing with reality??? As someone here posted in another diary "Ding Ding Ding It's OVER".
More from the Time article:
Meanwhile, if Hillary Clinton's feelings are still bruised, her husband's are positively raw. The former President is particularly resentful of suggestions—which he believes were fueled by the Obama camp—that he attempted to play upon racial fears during the primaries. Not helping is the fact that Obama has yet to follow up on the tentative dinner plans he and Bill Clinton made at the end of the primary season. "It's personal with him, in terms of his own legacy," says a friend of Bill Clinton's. "And the race stuff really left a bad taste in his mouth."
Clinton's resentment came through in an interview with ABC News during his recent trip to Africa. Asked what regrets he might have about his role in his wife's campaign, he bristled and then shot back, "I am not a racist. I never made a racist comment." He struggled to render a positive comment about Obama's qualifications for his old job. "You could argue that nobody is ever ready to be President," Clinton said. "You could argue that even if you've been Vice President for eight years, that no one can ever be fully ready for the pressures of the office." Pressed again, he responded with an endorsement that could hardly have been a weaker cup of tea: "I never said he wasn't qualified. The Constitution sets qualification for the President. And then the people decide who they think would be the better President. I think we have two choices. I think he should win, and I think he will win."
I realize that we have many from both sides here and have watched, and participated in, many of the discussions. My feelings regarding Bill's past actions are not kind and my feelings towards the campaign that Hillary ran are not kind BUT there comes a point where we as democrats have to decide what is more important. Hurt feelings or losing this election? Obama has fallen in the polls, and yes I am aware that he is still ahead in the electoral vote but THAT is falling too, and now he is fully involved in getting ready for the General election, trying to raise money, trying to keep everyone happy and I am certain attempting to maintain his sanity...and he is suppose to stop and pander to a group of people who seem to want to be recognised for having supported someone other than him? After spending the last couple of months doing it? and now give up his limelight at the convention? to someone who lost? To say NOTHING of the divisive reactions this is causing through out the Party? Where does it end? Do these left over supporters think that if she is nominated at the convention that she could even raise enough money to run against McCain? Heck she can't even get those same supporters to help her pay off her debt! Talk about setting ourselves up to lose! Obama has had more bad press the last month than I ever thought could be possible and a part of it has been the actions of people who call theirselves Democrats! Do they really think their actions right now will matter 2 years from now when John McCain has continued the policies of George Bush??? REALLY?
I hope that people stop and take a good long look at this situation and decide the time has come to try to talk sense into this crowd and stop letting them have their time. They have had time and now it is time to help our nominee and perhaps push for a position for Hillary where she can contribute to the administration IF we wind up with a Democratic one.
The Repugs have to be loving this.
