I just watched the abbreviated opening of the RNC on C-SPAN, and now I'm watching the discussion.
The GOP is on defense. According to the talking head, they are being careful not to come across as too happy or celebratory during these difficult times. Good for them, but even better for us.
The upshot is that there is no passion or enthusiasm on display to compete with the thousands of empty seats, and the talking head discussion tends to be about Palin's ethical problems. Laura Bush gave the very minimum speech she could get away with, introduced videos of Gulf Coast governors, and got out of town.
I like the direction this is taking. DEE-fense wins football championships, but it doesn't win elections. Ask Gore or Kerry about that.
If there is a rerun of "Manimal" during the McCain acceptance speech, the RNC will come in second in the ratings.
