There's a much larger issue here that everyone seems to be missing with regards to Gov. Palin's "troubles". First off, this really isn't about Sarah Palin, this is about John McCain and his lack of judgement. Beyond that however, there is a more immediate crisis here looming for the McCain campaign, and that's the inevitable revelation of McCain's dishonesty about this whole matter.
John McCain has claimed that he knew about Bristol's pregnancy prior to asking Gov. Palin to be his running mate. Obviously, to admit that he didn't know in advance would be painfully embarrassing, so he did what every good Republican does when their backs are up against the wall - He lied. Follow me below the fold so I can spell out my logic for you.
John McCain claims that he knew about Bristol being pregnant prior to asking Sarah Palin to become his running mate. If he knew this to be the case, then he made a political calculation to NOT mention it when introducing her to the American public. Fine. I'll give him that. He didn't want to spoil her big coming out party. But even John McCain must realize that this isn't the kind of news that you can hide from the public forever.
When is it EVER preferable to let someone else break this kind of bad news, when you can release it yourself and shape the news the way you'd like to? In what alternate universe would a presidential candidate allow news like this to be released on the eve of their convention, especially when forced into the open by "bloggers"? It simply does not add up. There is no rational explanation for allowing a story like this to be broken by others - a story that you know will have to come out eventually - unless you are unaware of it. This woman was never properly vetted, McCain never knew Palin's daughter was pregnant until after he asked her to be his VP and then he lied about the whole thing to avoid embarrassment. The question is, will anyone in the MSM do any digging and pursue this angle?
