Okay folks it's crunch time.
I'm going to refrain from running around announcing that the sky is falling or accusing people of announcing that the sky is falling or listing the many ways that the Obama campaign is failing to take our advice and is therefore going to lose horribly. Instead I'm going to simply point out that without exception the one thing that is needed more of is the simple hard work of end game politics.
That means at the local level. Volunteering. On. The. Ground.
If you can do this, thank you! There is a special place in my heart for you. Not everyone can do the hard work on the ground, but there are many volunteers who do exactly that. They staff the many local offices in those swing states where this election will be decided. While I may not be able to convince you to give up your lives between now and the election, I hope I will be able to convince you to help those who do.
I'll explain after the jump.
The campaign needs ca$h if we are going to retake the airwaves in the last six weeks. And it also needs the hard work of the many volunteers who canvas, register, answer phones and make the entire ground game possible.
Now some of us are maxed out already with direct campaign contributions, but that doesn't mean we can't contribute to the local offices. The limit to that type of donation is $10,000 a person. So...here is my latest attempt to get folks to fork over the cash:
I'm going to adopt my local Falls Church Virginia Campaign for Change office and match any contribution that folks make on my fundraisingpage with food bombs. You give $50, they get $50 in food. You give $1000, they get $1000. Get it?
Here is the fun part. I want as many of you who have maxed out to the Obama campaign as possible to also adopt your local office (or if you live in a safe state, an office in a critical area!) and do the same thing.
The key is - we encourage others who can still give to do so AND we help with providing fuel for the volunteers, largely those energizer bunny types known as high school and college students, whose dedication has made such a difference already.
This is what I'm suggesting:
Use this diary to say which local office you want to adopt.
You post a comment saying which office it is and a link to your fundraising page.
Then I will copy the information from your comment on what the local office is and provide a link to your comment as well. That way people can choose which office they want to help feed by giving to the right fundraising page.
I'll start with mine:
Kossack.................Local Office..................Comment / Fundraising Link
nsfbr.....................Falls Church, VA.........My Page
Remember, if we ALL do more than our share, we are unstoppable.
If you can't donate, then at least please rec this. Once a critical mass is reached (hopefully) I'll just change my sig to make it link to this diary to keep attention to it.
One last thing, you should coordinate with your local office so you get the food to them when they need it. Really, 20 pizzas when there is only 2 people there is not helpful. I plan on keeping them fed from now through November 4 if I'm funded by you all to do so. Please help me start this weekend! Thanks to everyone who takes up this challenge.
