Have you been looking for a positive way to get involved with the campaign? I decided that today was a great day to work on building a personal contact list to focus on come election day. Why is this important? The answer is simple, voter turnout hovers around 60%, and is of course lower for certain demographics (that's one reason they don't weight polls according to exact voter registration numbers). If you can make a list of 10 people you know, and ensure all 10 of them get to the polls on election day, you are statistically increasing turnout by about 4 votes (if you are younger, this effect is larger and if you are older it may be smaller). Sounds simple doesn't it?
So far this week, I have made personal contacts in Florida(1), Iowa(1) New Mexico(2), California(1), Texas(1) Oklahoma(2), Illinois(10). I believe that with just a little bit of effort, we can greatly influence those closest to us to get involved in the political process, and help them understand Barack's message of unity, change, and hope. Follow me below the fold, and help me add to these statistics by joining the cause. (w/ updated chart and organizational tools)
Plan of Attack
- Make sure you, yourself are registered. If you are reading this diary without being registered yourself, start here.
- Download your own personal voter contact list here (coming soon). This file can be opened with Adobe Reader, and the information filled out, printed and placed on your refrigerator.
- Think of 10 people close to you that you are personally responsible for getting to the polls on election day (this is your way of magnifying your impact). Make a list of their name, phone number and E-mail addresses using the voter contact list here (coming soon). Having all this info in one place will make it much easier to contact everyone in a timely fashion on election day.
- Send personalized E-mails, one at a time, to each person on your list to get them registered and involved. Send at least two E-mails today to get yourself warmed up.
- Post the state location of people you have contacted here so we can update the map and see our progress
- Recruit others to make their own lists of contacts for election day.
My goal on election day is to have a personal contact list of 50 people to get to the polls. I have worked hard to donate to the Obama campaign, and would appreciate if anyone else wants to donate to my goal of raising 1000$ for Barack. Thanks everyone!
Help me reach my 1000$ Fundraising Goal for Barack
- Remember to post the state information of people you are contacting so I can update the map.
- Vote early so you can work on getting the 10 people on your list to the polls on Election Day!
- If you think this is an important task, recommend this diary so everyone on Kos can help.
- Can anyone host a pdf file for me to link to in this diary for the voter contact list?
