Well, most of us have seen the diaries about replacing Biden with Hillary Clinton as the VP nomineee.
I've been on this site a good long time now, and I know Hillary is as popular with some members as Bush is! I was initially an Edwards suporter. After he droped, I slighly favored Obama, although the anti-Hillary screeds ticked me off. I would have been happy with a Clinton-Obama or Obama-Clinton ticket.
And as a political junkie, despite knowing his baggage, I was thrilled to hear of Biden's choice as VP. Despite the phony plagiarism charges, the verbal gaffes, and the possibility of Biden's long tenure in the Senate being a liability in a change election, the GOP didn't bloody him up.
Follow me after the fold.
So I think Biden is a great candidate, and a potentially great VP. I think he is doing a good job tearing into McCain. And I think we MUST win this election. I know there is a general consensus that it would be a sign of weakness for Obama to switch out. Here's the how, when, and why of the switch:
If, 2 weeks before election day, Obama isn't ahead in the electoral college, Biden will make an announcement something like this:
I love and respect America. I have the greatest respect and admiration for Barack Obama. But Hillary Clinton put 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, and now an unqualified person may be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. I'm not just talking about the continuation of Bush's failed policies that John would continue. My good friend of many years, John McCain, is not in the best of health. He has had 4 bouts with agressive skin cancer. His body has permanent damage from his years spent being tortured as a POW. I don't know if his body and mind could complete a full four year term if he was elected. Sarah Palin is simply not qualified to be POTUS because of X, Y, and Z. She did not undergo the scrutiny of the GOP primary. Could you imagine what Rudy, John, Mitt, and the gang would have said about her? Do you think ahe would have battled it out to being one of the final two? The ONLY reason she is on the ticket is because of Hillary's powerful campaigning.
So 2008 IS the year the glass ceiling WILL be broken. Americans will not be forced to vote for John McCain to break it. America will have a choice in who breaks it: A woman who has served the American public, especially children, for 30 years. A woman who excelled in school, at a law firm, and in public office. A woman who knows what the Bush doctrine is. A woman who has great faith, and believes in science. A woman who has underwent great trials of adversity while in the public eye. Or a woman who, despite not knowing what the VP does, didn't hesitate to take the position when offered it.
John McCain likes to TALK about putting country first. Yet he chose to put a grossly unqualified person a heartbeat away from the Presidency, hoping to capitalize on the euphoria, and the heartbreak, of Hillary supporters. He did not remotely Vet her. He only met her once before offerring her the position. Barack and I spent a great deal of time together, and knew we would have a great working relationship.
I truly LOVE my country. I was so Proud when Barack asked me to be his VP. But I'm putting my Country first. Before my party. Before my ego. Before my pride. Before my 20 year ambition to be President, or in line to the Presidency. Before being in the history books. I am stepping down as VP nominee, so a truly qualified woman can break the glass ceiling.
Comments from Hillary: Well, this campaign has had more twists and turns than Rudy Guilliani leading New Yorks Gay Pride Parade. Rudy is a great cross-dresser, as we saw from his performance at the GOP Convention. Who knew that he was a small town boy? How many of you want to have an economy like we had in the 1990's, under the last Democratic President?
Comments from Barack: It is with heartfelt sorrow that I accept Joe's withdrawal. He will serve in my Administration. Joe is stepping down, not because of any fault of his own, or because of any scandal. As I have continually said, this election is NOT about me. It is about you, the American people. Hillary Clinton, through her fierce campaigning, has created the urgency of now to have a female in the Executive office. It will be called a sign of weakness by the GOP. But it is not. The electorate has demanded it, and it will happen. When facts change, I will alter my course. The American public knows Hillary will be ready to lead if anything happens to me. Our ticket will reflect the diversity of America, without sacrificing the qualifications to fulfill the Office of the Vice-Presidency.
Please note that my 2 week timeframe will not give the GOP enough time to get new slime out on the Clintons. It will suck ALL the oxygen out of the room. And John McCain will have to come up with a new slogan, as "Country First" will now pertain ONLY to the Dem ticket. I'm not saying it should be done, but that it should be considered.
