While I am extremely sympathetic to John McCain's disabled status, there is amazing new technology available that enables the disabled to actually talk to their computers rather than use a keyboard.
I know this topic has already been diaried (sp?) - but my computer had issues yesterday and I couldn't be the first. Too bad for me. So - I added a Blackberry zinger in.
Well - it isn't exactly NEW... This technology has been available for quite some time - but it appears that McCain isn't interested in going there. It seems rather odd that he has never once mentioned this disability detail when he has blathered on about being computer illiterate etc etc - not until after the Obama campaign released their most recent ad, deriding McCain for his luddite-ness (there was no mention of McCain's disability in the ad) was there any mention that McCain's disabilities are the reason behind his computer use issues.
There are countless people in this world who can't even swallow on their own who use computers prolifically utilizing technology that is readily available, and for McCain this kind of device would be free.
"McCain spent 5 1/2 years as a prisoner of war in Hanoi. After he was released in 1973, he returned home on crutches and began a painful physical rehabilitation. He later regained flight status and commanded a Navy squadron before retiring from the service in 1981." - L.A. Times
Hmmm... interesting. Regained flight status... but can't use a computer?
"After he came back from his five and a half years as a prisoner of war, Mr. McCain took command of the Navy's largest squadron, a force of A-7 attack aircraft." - N.Y. Sun
OK - now... if he can't use his fingers - or lift his arms to use a keyboard, how in the world did he command a freakin' A-7 attack aircraft squadron? I'm just sayin... it's all too pat.
And where did his invention of the Blackberry come in?
Look - if he can't - he can't, and I won't disparage that if it's true. But if it's bullshit - then what won't the McCain Campaign do? So far, any handy item within reach has been employed, regardless of the sanctity of ones family - or disability - or ones history as a POW. Nothing McCain does surprises me anymore.
