Hi Michael. Here's your vocabulary word of the day: in the blogosphere, we refer to someone who goes to the opposite camp -- say, a Republican operative Op-Eding for a generally liberal newspaper -- and expresses "concern" about his opponent's performance along with advice on how he or she can improve -- as a "concern troll."
Which is to say, I'm sure those in the Obama camp who monitor such pointless trivialities as Republican opinion writing got a good chuckle out of your column today advising Obama not to fight back against the usual vicious, fraudulent, issue-free Republican onslaught. But you should not anticipate that your advise will be taken, nor should you delude yourself that his supporters feel as you wish to pretend we do. We are going to win. America will have competent governance again. We will not allow the apotheosis of modern Republican ignorance and ideological absolutism to reach the White House. And these things will all happen because Obama, with his usual grace, style, force and precision, will kick John McCain's ass to the curb on November 4th.
I mean, seriously, dude -- do you really think that the average Obama supporter thinks that the Obama style of politics ought to consist of passively sitting back and letting yourself be branded by your opponent? Do you not understand that one of the things Americans in dangerous times absolutely must see from a political newcomer asking to be president is the spine and strength to defend himself, as a first prerequisite to being trusted to defend his nation? And, most importantly, have you not noticed over the past few days that Obama and Biden have very effectively attacked John McCain, only not on the shallow, mean-spirited, culture-warriored personal terms that the good Senator from Arizona -- or, more precisely, the people who actually run that sad, befuddled, disgraced figurehead's campaign -- favors, but in terms of the actual issues that Americans actually care about? Have you not noticed that the polls are already sliding back in our favor?
Actually, I strongly suspect you have. I think you understand all of this. I think you also understand that absolutely no one in the Obama camp could care less what you have to say; they have their game plan and will stick to it straight through to Election Day, no matter what. No, I think you merely used your Op-Ed position to try and reach a few swing voters in, say, Virginia and suggest to them that Obama has abandoned his principles and, hey, if you're going to vote for a sold-out whore offering the same old content-free partisan drivel, why not nice old John McCain?
Luckily for, well, you know, the future of the entire planet, it appears that a majority of Americans are starting to see through your (by which I mean the Republican Party's) brand of shameless propaganda. I mean, hey, good for you for ditching President Moron and all -- I suppose that lending your rhetorical gifts to those evil subliterate scumbags for six years instead of eight is something for which the rest of us ought to be at least marginally grateful -- but you know what? Just because you don't work for George W. Bush doesn't necessarily mean you aren't still full of shit.
So, to recap: yes, we will fight. And we will win. So spare us the pointless concern trolling, and start thinking about using your abilities to do something worthwhile on this earth, in the hopes that someday, after we are all long gone, your name is remembered for something other than enabling the man who will himself be remembered as the most despised and damaging president in American history.
Sincerely yours,
Reviser
