So I've had it up to here (visualize nsfbr standing on a chair with arm outstretched towards the ceiling) with pundits and even some concerned denizens of this bastion of rational thought making the repeated, though erroneous observation that our man Obama is not doing as well as he should, that he is performing far below the generic Democrat vs Rethuglican polling that is done.
Bullshit.
In today's RCP general election average, Obama leads McShame by an average of 49 to 43, for a +6% spread. At the same time, in the generic congressional average Dems lead Rethugs by 47 to 38.6, for a split of 8.4%.
That's right Obama is at 49% on AVERAGE and generic Dem candidate is 47!
The fact is, Obama is MORE popular than the generic Democrat (duh) not less. The reason for the smaller differential is that McShame has been living off his base's refusal to do any serious study of the man. Yes, Traditional Media, I'm talking about you.
My thinking is that as John McShame continues his demonstration of exactly why he is unfit for the Presidency - and thanks to this being 2008 and not 1968 on a 24/7 news cycle - his favorables will continue to sink. At the same time the great thing about Barack is that as more people actually get to see and hear him, the more people like and trust him.
This is a new day in America. Enjoy it.
Now as I say this I want to make it absolutely clear that we should not and can not be complacent, or careless. The last 4 days shows that we are just as capable of getting into a destructive feeding frenzy as the tabloids. This MUST stop. If you've been paying attention at all to Obama you would know that he is the antithesis of this kind of behavior. Let me be blunt - if this community continues to attack a 17 year old girl because of the mistakes of her mother in failing to recognize that birth control is a requirement of engaging in sex at that age then we may very well be responsible to costing Barack the election. Think about that.
And then, consider heading on over to my fundraising page to make a donation. I raised $1500 last week, but I'm still short of my goal. Thanks!
Consider it penance. Joe Biden would be proud.
