Despite attempts by Sarah Palin’s church, Wasilla Assembly of God church, to squelch her 2005 annointing by Thomas Muthee, it has resurfaced on the internet. If you aren’t familiar with Muthee, he is
an influential figure in an increasingly powerful but little studied, emergent strain of world Christian fundamentalism bent on achieving political power and cleansing the world of "evil'.
Muthee, who now has the title of "Bishop" was one of three who laid their hands on Palin’s head, including her present pastor Ed Kalnins. During the annointing,
"Muthee exclaimed, "We come against the spirit of witchcraft! We come against the python spirits!" Then, a local pastor took the mic from Muthee and added, "We stomp on the heads of the enemy!" - Journalist Max Blumenthal, describing Palin-anointer Thomas Muthee's appearance at the Wasilla Assembly of God, September 20, 2008
Muthee seems to have a particular fascination with witches.
According to Muthee, any woman who exhibits a paranormal talent can be deemed a witch.
Muthee chose a local woman named Mama Jane who happened to work as a fortune teller. Mama Jane had never caused much trouble before, but she was an important target for Muthee, because she was a close associate of town’s leaders. Muthee accused Mama Jane of being a sorceress - a witch who was engaging in spiritual warfare to curse to town of Kiambu.
Muthee’s proof of Mama Jane’s witchcraft? There had been three car accidents in the neighborhood of the clinic where Mama Jane worked. That, said Muthee, was sure evidence that Mamma Jane was a witch. So, Muthee got the local population in a panic, and sent three police officers into Mamma Jane’s. They fired their guns, killing one of Mama Jane’s pets.
Then, they arrested Mama Jane and threw her into jail. Muthee made his demand: "Mama Jane either gets saved and serves the Lord or she leaves town!"
When Mama Jane was finally released from jail, she fled town, fearing for her life.
In 1486, the book "The Malleus Maleficarum" (Latin for "The Hammer of Witches" was published. It was basically an indictment of free-thinking women. The book informed the clergy how to locate, torture, and kill women who were deemed "witches". This was defined as any woman who varied from what the Catholic Church labeled as "normal", such as housewives and mothers. Targeted were scholars, mystics, and midwives. The latter’s sin was that they helped to eliminate pain and suffering in women.
During a three hundred year period, over five million women were burned at the stake. This carried over into the United States with the infamous Salem Witch Trials in 1692. The Clergy was present at many of these burnings.
Sarah, who attended the Wasilla Assembly of God church for two and half decades (most of her adult life) fondly speaks about Muthee’s anointing, and how he has influenced her life. You can view a video Palin and her connection to Muthee here
If the Wasilla Assembly of God church has its way, we could return to the dark ages; only this time it’ll be referred to as the Palin Witch Trials!
