For anyone who may have missed it, I wanted to point out that last night the Orange to Blue page passed the $500,000 dollar mark in total donations raised. That's over half a million dollars to good, progressive candidates who are working to make this country a better place!
So... what are YOU doing to support them?
I've done some professional fundraising in my life, and it's never easy work. It's hard to ask people for things, especially money, and it's way too easy for any one person to think "well, my $10 is so little that it won't really make a difference anyway." In tough economic times, it only gets harder.
But it's so important to keep trying. I work in the financial sector, so--while I have a good job--I'm very nervous about how much longer I'm going to be employed. That only makes it more important to find creative ways to free up some cash in the budget. Examples: a couple of months ago, my group of girlfriends decided to cancel our monthly dinner out in favor of coffee and a (free) walk in the park, with the money we saved being donated to the candidate of our choice.
My 20-year-old cousin, now in college, gave up her Thursday afternoons to work a couple of hours as a babysitter for one of her professors and gives half of what she makes to the Obama campaign.
