According to this article on CNN.com, Sarah Palin has spent the past 4 days in debate prep in a Philadelphia hotel, and she'll spend another 2-1/2 days in "debate camp" at McCain's Sedona AZ home.
Palin's huge amount of debate prep seems understandable given the massive FAIL that was her interview with Katie Couric. You know you're in trouble when Saturday Night Live creates a mocking sketch based almost entirely on your own words.
Comparisons with other candidates are instructive, however. Barack Obama was chided by McCain's team for scheduling 3 days of debate prep. Given the bailout morass, Obama ended up with perhaps 1-1/2 days of prep and still cleaned McCain's clock. Imagine the outcry, however, if Obama had scheduled 6-1/2 days of debate prep! The McCain campaign would have screamed "inexperience" and portrayed him as a scared little boy.
By Thursday night, I want the viewing public to know that McCain's people wouldn't let Palin onstage without (almost) one week of intensive preparation. That way, if she fails again as expected, no one will make excuses.
(Well, of course they'll make excuses. We should take bets on what the excuses will be . . .)
