(Adapted from one of my earlier comments)
Most of what many people refer to as the liberal media has been very restrained and conservative towards McCain prior to his selection of Palin.
But the better part of the corporate media's view changed significantly and dramatically, almost immediately after Palin was selected. Did the media not know more about Palin than the general public did last Friday? Probably did. Does the media not know more about Palin than the general public knows today? Probably does.
But what does this really mean? I suspect something deeper is going on here...
Most assuredly McCain is to be held responsible for his decisions, all of his decisions. And picking Palin is clearly the worst of the worst.
Yet, instead of strongly attacking Palin as a VP pick, and suggesting a replacement, the media is strongly attacking McCain on his judgement on this one specific issue of selecting Palin. McCain is being crucified for this one, important as it is, very bad decision, while Palin, relatively speaking, is getting off the hook. Why is that? Why all the pressure on McCain and so little spotlight on the cabal that forced McCain away from Sen. Joe Lieberman, by most accounts his first choice, into this decision which now can only be described at best as mysterious?
I would like to remind everyone that McCain was selected by millions of voters in the Republican primary. He ran a tolerable and fairly traditional campaign against several formidable opponents.
Palin was not even in the primary.
Yet McCain's major opponents, Romney, Huckabee, Guiliani, and even Ron Paul, have been fairly quiet of late. Why is that? Really, why is that?
Is there is something bigger, possibly something darker, going on here? Obviously, I can't get a good handle on it all by myself. But I see others have similar thoughts. And I think we now understand Palin's style and views are much closer to President Bush than McCain's ever was.
I begin to wonder now if the intent of a few or the effects of many will be to sufficiently embarrass McCain that he is forced to drop out, while Palin remains, more or less by default.
The media should lay off McCain, for now. He's an older gentleman who obviously has some age and health problems. And yes he is an on again, off again maverick. Would it not be wiser to concentrate on the inanity of Palin, on those who convinced McCain to make this selection, and most importantly, force her removal from the Republican ticket? Then, and only then, back to McCain.
