Earlier today, John McCain met with the Des Moines Editorial Board in Iowa-- and the rest will be history.
His angry interview--- one of the worst I've ever seen--- highlights one of the scariest aspects of a McCain presidency.
We have seen what happens when a president views the world through black and white lenses. What is going to happen when we get that same president, but with a hair trigger temper?
John McCain at the Des Moines Register Editorial Board
The angry interview.
There is a clear record of John McCain not being able to keep his cool.
From New York Magazine:
Years ago, while they were serving together in the Senate, Bob Kerrey and John McCain both worked on the POW/MIA committee. It was an extremely sensitive assignment for both of them, but even more so for McCain, who’d been a prisoner of war. Over the course of the year, Kerrey recalls, McCain got so incensed at a fellow senator—an Iowa farmer named Chuck Grassley—he was convinced McCain was going to bodily harm him during a meeting with colleagues and staff. "I knew he wasn’t going to stand up and hit Grassley," says Kerrey, "because when John came out of the plane in Vietnam, his arms were ripped out of his sockets, and they rebroke them several times when he was in prison. But I am thinking, He’s going to head-butt Grassley and drive the cartilage in his nose into his brain. I’m going to watch a colleague kill a colleague.
From the Swamp Politics:
Cochran told the Sun Herald he witnessed a confrontation between McCain and a Sandinista rebel decades ago in which McCain "got mad at the guy and he just reached over there and snatched him."
...
"McCain was down at the end of the table and we were talking to the head of the guerilla group here at this end of the table and I don't know what attracted my attention," Cochran said. "But I saw some kind of quick movement at the bottom of the table and I looked down there and John had reached over and grabbed this guy by the shirt collar and had snatched him up like he was throwing him up out of the chair to tell him what he thought about him or whatever. I don't know what he was telling him but I thought, good grief, everybody around here has got guns and we were there on a diplomatic mission. I don't know what had happened to provoke John but he obviously got mad at the guy and he just reached over there and snatched him."
From the Huff Post (care of Jed Lewison):
Panelists on this AM's special edition of Morning Joe were zeroed straight in on John McCain's angry debate performance last night.
Mika Brzezinski was particularly put-off by McCain's refusal to look at Barack Obama, which she said was not only rude, but made her wonder how McCain could debate issues if he couldn't even look at his opponent.
Joe Scarborough also thought McCain's demeanor reflected poorly on him, and Mike Barnicle thought McCain looked annoyed.
Even Pat Buchanan, who felt McCain won the debate, thought McCain's demeanor could very well be a negative for McCain.
This man is dangerous, and we can't afford to let him into the White House-- let alone his running mate. To watch the entire angry interview--- don't say I didn't warn you---click here.
****UPDATE**** In case you thought that the Des Moines Register is some sort of liberal rag that is out to get John McCain-- they endorsed him for president less than a year ago! JOHN MCCAIN IS NOT THE SAME MAN.
